You might not know, for example, that we’re a registered charity. That means that even though we run regular classes from our city centre studio, a lot of the work we do isn’t so public, and so requires us to apply for additional funding.
We love all aspects of what makes MDI such an important North West organisation, but its our tireless work with hard to reach community groups that really gets us, as well as our funders properly excited.
Last year, we were unlucky to lose our status as one of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations (alongside other Liverpool-based arts charities such as Hope Street Ltd and national organisations such as London’s Southbank Centre), meaning a cut to funding.
This sort of change, although a set back, isn’t uncommon for organisations funded by ACE, and certainly gives us something to think about when we’re planning our next programme cycle. Simply put, it means that we’ll be working harder to attract other income, and that includes donations from you, our wonderful audience.
There are lots of ways you can donate to MDI, and your support really matters. Right now, our Community Dance Artist Paul is running the Liverpool Half Marathon to raise money for our community projects. Click here to read the story and donate.
