As part of our re launched youth strategy. MDI will be working with schools and colleges from across Merseyside to present an evening of dance work featuring talented young dancers.
The performance will form part of the BBC Ten Pieces initiative, which aims to get more children and young people listening and creating a response to classical music.
We will be working with St John Bosco (Liverpool), St Julies (Liverpool), City of Liverpool College (Liverpool), Arch Bishop Blanch (Liverpool), Ormiston Bolingbrook Academy (Halton), Ormiston Chadwick Academy (Halton), St Mary’s Catholic College (Wirral), Formby High School (Sefton), Sefton Sixth Form College (Sefton), Space - Merseyside Youth Association, MDI’s Merseyside Youth Dance Company
Each group will be assigned a piece of classical music from the short list and asked to create a response to it for public performance, MDI have said “this is an exciting project for schools, colleges and young people, we hope it allows teachers and students to think outside the box, take risks and raise creativity. This is a celebration of the work that takes place in schools everyday inspiring young people to pursue dance and the performing arts as a career or a hobby in adult life. We want the event to be inclusive allowing young people to take part in a dance performance without a competitive element.”
